The caucus/primary season is only just underway but already it has thrown up its first surprise.
Despite having dominated the media coverage and fared well at the Republican debates, Donald Trump wound up finishing second to Ted Cruz in the Iowa caucus.
All of which said, a healthy third place for Marco Rubio means that he is oddschecker.com’s favourite to win the Republican nomination.
Meanwhile on the other side of the political fence, Hilary Clinton narrowly defeated Bernie Sanders in the Democrat caucus, a success that means that oddschecker have Bill Clinton’s better half as both the favourite to win the Democrat nod and to win the Presidency outright.
Despite the Iowa polls having closed, no candidates have yet to withdraw from the race.
However, with Republican hopefuls Chris Christie, Carly Fiorina, Jim Gilmore, Mike Huckabee, Kohn Kasich and Rick Santorum securing no delegates, it would appear only a matter of time before one or more of the above throws their weight behind another candidate.
