A great night for The Revenant at the BAFTAs means that Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s intense action drama is now odds-on favourite to pick up the Best Picture prize at the 2016 Academy Awards.
The frontier epic picked up five BAFTAs, including the prizes for Best Picture, Director and Actor.
With the Oscars now less than a fortnight away, The Revenant is 10/11 to receive the night’s major award.
Further down the field you’ll find the acclaimed Catholic Church expose Spotlight (13/8) and the economic downturn comedy The Big Short (10/3).
As these three pictures are a long way’s ahead of the opposition, so leading man DiCaprio (pictured above with Inarritu and presenter Tom Cruise) is such a firm favourite to break his Oscars duck that you’ll have to stick a full £50 on the Wolf Of Wall Street star in order to win a solitary pound.
Room’s Brie Larson (1/20) also appears nailed on to win the Best Actress prize.
And an excellent Academy Awards for The Revenant ought to be completed by director Inarritu who is 1/20 to add to the Best Director Oscar he won for Birdman last year.
