Mayor Boris Johnson is keen to make London an eSports hotbed capable of rivalling Tokyo.
As part of an eSports special in Metro, coverage was given not only to Boris’s recent Minecraft debut (above) but to his having given his support to the new £1.2 million Games London initiative.
With professional eSports now a huge global business – and betting on video gaming growing rapidly – it is hoped that Games London could end up being an event of the same size and scope as the Tokyo Games Show.
Games London is scheduled to take place between 1st and 10th April at 15 different venues across the capital.
The result of a partnership between Film London and games industry trade body Ukie, the event has been described as “an exciting new celebration of the art, culture and business of video games.”
